If you live in Florida then knowing all about the different types of roofing is somthign you really need to do.  This is because Florida is badly affected by hurricanes and you really need to have a roofing material that will withstand it.  So if you have a roof that is getting on a bit then finding a Florida roof contracter who knows what they are doing is imperative.  Improvements to the engineering of roofing is so important if you want to be able to withstand all the different types of weather that can be experienced.

A roof is a lot more that just something that is placed on your home.  A roof serves a functional purpose and can do a lot to protect the fabric of your home from rain, heat, snow, wind and anything else that might be thrown its way.  If you have a roof that is compromised in any way which allows rain to get in you can develop all sorts of problems relating to dampness and mold.  This is really not something that you want to happen.

There are other roofing structures that need to be considered too such as porches, garages and sun rooms.  These will all need to be treated appropriately and it can vary depending on a number of things, this is something that a roofing contractor in Florida will be able to help you with.

Having a new roof installed is never going to be cheap but it’s something that needs to be done if you want to save yourself time and money in the long run.  Of course, you might not need to replace your roof as it might just need repairing.  Unfortunately many roofing contractors will often tell you to have a new roof installed whether you really need to or not.  They are just looking for your business after all.  This is why it’s so important to ask a number of Florida roofin contractors round for an estimate.  You should also ask friends and neighbors about who they have used in the past and who they are happy with.

Always are yourself with plenty of information about all the different types of rofing materials that are out there and what are suitable for use in Florida or not.  You will naturally be looking for a material that can withstand the elements and last for a long time.  You certainly don’t want to go to the hassle of renewing your roof all over again in just a few years.  Understanding about shingles, membranes and materials such as rubber, metal, wood and slate is important.

Shingles are very popular in America and are often refered to as shakes.  You can buy shingles in a variety of materials including shakes, asphalt, slate and you can even buy solar shingles which will help you to generate your own electricity.  Cedar shakes are not very fire resistant so you should do further research on this topic to make sure that you don’t buy them for an area that is prone to fires.

Membrane is often installed on roofs and are fused together to create a single surface.  You will normally find them under metal roofing and also flat roofs.  Although having a flat roof in Florida is acceptable, they are more prone to leaks than a pitched roof so it’s something to consider if you are primarily interested in function.

As already mentioned, when you are selecting a Florida roofing contractor you should ask at least three companies out to give you a quotation because it’s amazing how different they can all be.  Some will charge depending on how good they are whilst others will charge what they think they can get away with.  It certainly won’t harm you to tell them that you are getting a couple of other quotes because often they will lower the price if they know that you are shopping around.  Price isn’t always a good factor to use however when it comes to selecting a roofing company because price isn’t always an indicator of quality.  Some large Florida roofing contractors will also charge more just because they have fancy literature and sales staff but this doesn’t mean they are any better.
