How to Care for a Capsicum Plant

Monday, February 11th, 2008 @ 3:00 pm | Houseplants

These ornamental peppers are often bought in fall/early winter when the peppers have already formed. Capsicums are particularly popular due to the fact that they produce an abundance of fruit. In early summer, small flowers are produced however they are not at all spectacular.

Capsicum Annuum (Christmas Pepper) is probably the most popular indoor variety.

Light and Temperature

You must give this type of plant plenty of bright light - at least 3 or 4 hours per day. If you do not give them enough light then the leaves will shrivel up and drop off. Capsicums grow well in normal room temperatures however the peppers will last longer if you provide the plant with a temperature of at least 55 F. It is also advised to stand the pot on a tray of moist pebbles.

Watering and Feeding

Water your plant as needs making sure that the soil is thoroughly moist. You should also feed your plant with liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks.
