If being eco friendly is important to you when buying products for the home then buying bamboo flooring is certainly a good thing. Although do not think you have to compromise on quality. Bamboo is one of the best quality and most durable materials you can choose for flooring. It looks great too.

Strength of Bamboo

Bamboo is an amazing plant which is used as food and is also a traditional building material in Asia. Although bamboo is actually a type of grass it is 10% stronger than Red Wood. Besides flooring, you can also buy kitchen worktops and decorative screens made from bamboo as well as kitchen utensils and many other things. A problem that can occur with hardwood flooring is that it expands and contracts – this is not half as much of a problem with bamboo.

Colour of Bamboo Floors

The natural colour of bamboo is blonde however if you prefer an amber colour then you should buy carbonized bamboo which has been put through a process which involves smoke.

Grain of Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo can be milled both vertically and horizontally. A vertical cut gives a more even “all over” look whilst a horizontal cut shows the individual nodes giving a more varied pattern.

How to Install Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo flooring is much the same as other types of flooring when it comes to installation. They can be glued, stapled or simply “click locked”. If you are installing the flooring yourself then you probably should avoid the “glue” method instead opt for the “click lock” method.
