Acrylic Fishtanks
When shopping for fishtanks, you will be faced with the options of what type to buy, either glass or acrylic. Before you make your decision, make sure you understand the pros and cons of each type.
When it comes to deciding on the material for your fish tank, price is not necessarily an indicator of quality. Although glass is the major material used for aquariums, this material may not be suitable if you are planning a really large tank. If this is the case, then acrylic tanks are something you should consider.
Here are three reasons to consider acrylic for your fish-tank.
1# Lighter Material. Acrylic is a much lighter material than glass

which in turn makes your tank much lighter and so requires less support.
2# Custom-build. If you like the idea of designing your own unique aquarium then acrylic is ideal as it can be cut to any shape or size you desire. Glass tanks can only be made so big because of it’s weight, so acrylic allows you to build your dream aquarium. You can employ the help of a tank builder if you feel this is too much of a daunting task.
3# Custom equipment. Because you can have your acrylic tank custom built, you can also have the tanks, filtration, pumps and chemical systems customized too. This will allow full control over the appearance of your tank.
When comparing the cost of a glass and acrylic tank of similar size, glass is the cheapest. The reason for this is because glass scratches less than acrylic and so tends not to get damaged in transit which in turn means there are more sellable items for the aquarium store. Although having a custom built tank made of acrylic will allow you to be the owner of a tank that no one else has.
