Decorating Home Gym Ideas
Redecorating seems to be a national pastime for many people. This is why there are many home and garden magazines along with TV shows. It’s easy to get addicted to redecorating; once you have finished one room you notice that the room next to it is starting to look a little drab. Our tastes in home décor have certainly gone through many phases, there have been pinks and grays, clutter and minimal, Aztec and Egyptian. We just can’t get enough of dabbling with different colors and styles. The way we use our homes changes too. For instance many people are installing home gyms because of health concerns. If you have never decorated a home gym it can be a little confusing knowing where to start.
Home gyms are obviously very different from other rooms in your home such as your kitchen and bedroom. Home gyms are built with one specific purpose; to get fit and lose weight. This is why you want it to actually look like an exercising gym. With this in mind you should be able to have a better idea of how to decorate so that it looks as if you’re stepping into a real gym.
Decorating any room in your home needs thought, imagination and vision. However creating the perfect home gym can be difficult, particularly if you’re having difficulty to motivate yourself into getting fit. Some people who have home gyms installed in their home do so because they have been leading a sedentary lifestyle and want to change their ways. It’s not easy to do this and for most people, getting fit for the first time in many years is a painful experience. Put a bit of effort into the decoration so that you can make your home gym a more pleasant place to workout in.
One of the most difficult aspects of designing a home gym is to think about a theme. Although you don’t want to go crazy with brash colors and patterns you don’t want it to be boring either. Painting your walls a warm shade of white and installing plenty of good lighting will make the room feel fresh, warm and inviting.
Although you don’t want to clutter your home gym with unnecessary items, you will probably want some accessories such as a mirror, clock and plants. By having a good large mirror you will be able to see yourself carry out certain exercises that require practice and care. Of course having a stereo is also a great way to keep yourself from getting bored and it will also help you exercise. Because this is your own gym you can play whatever music you feel is appropriate and at whatever volume you wish. There is no need to wear an iPod in your own home. A wall clock will allow you to time yourself and make sure you don’t spend too much time on one exercise and not enough on another. Hanging posters up on your walls of athletes can also add to the feeling of being in a professional gym and help motivate you.
In addition to the above you will need to think about what machinery you are going to buy and where to place them. This will obviously depend greatly and what size of room you have to work with. It’s not just the floor space that you need to be aware of either. If your room has low ceiling this could cause problems if you have tall exercising equipment. What size is your door? If you only have a very small door do you know if it’ll be big enough to fit gym equipment through?
Home gyms can be built in just about any size of home. The problem is we all have very different sizes of rooms and the size undoubtedly affects the size and quantity of machinery we can fit in. If you only have a very small room but still want to exercise from home, there are units which are multi-functional and can exercise both your upper and lower body. Alternatively you could choose free weights such as dumbbells, swiss ball, exercise mat, skipping ropes and small trampoline. You can buy barbells but make sure that you have enough space for using these.
If you’re lucky enough to have a large room to work in then you can buy pretty much what you wish. Just have each item of exercise equipment is a different part of the room and make sure that there’s enough space between each of them. Having a wall set aside for a full-length mirror is a wonderful addition too.
If you are having your gym set up in a basement, make sure that you don’t place any large items of equipment too near the stairs. You need to be able to easily get in and out of your basement and not have to worry about tripping over anything. If you were to accidentally fall down the stairs you could do yourself a nasty injury if you were to fall onto a rack of dumbbells. Basements can be problematic when it comes to air quality. They are underground so tend not to have any natural ventilation. By installing an air conditioning unit or dehumidifier you will be able to help a lot.
Having your own home gym has so many benefits it’s no wonder that so many people are having them installed. One of the things that put most people off from joining their local gym is the worry of looking fat and ugly compared to those who have spent years toning their bodies. By having a gym at home you don’t have to worry about how you look at you’ll be on your own. In saying that however, some people find exercising at home a lonely experience so it might be a good idea to have a friend over to exercise with you. It’ll also help with the motivation side of things.
